Prog-Watch 415

by The Prog Squatch | Neal Morse, Pt. 1

With Spock’s Beard he helped re-invigorate the American Prog scene in the ’90s, and then continued on as a solo artist and eventually with a band bearing his own name. Along the way, he was also a member of not just one, but two Prog Rock super-groups, Transatlantic and Flying Colors. He is, of course, Prog Icon Neal Morse, and this week he is my special guest on Prog-Watch! Tune in and get to know Mr. Morse a little better! We’ll also be spinning a lot of great epic Prog tracks from Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic, Neal Morse solo, and with The Neal Morse Band!

Neal Morse (born 2 August, 1960) is an American singer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer based in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1995, he formed the seminal Progressive Rock band Spock’s Beard with his brother Alan. Just before the turn of the century, he joined former Dream Theater co-founder Mike Portnoy, Flower Kings’ Roine Stolt, and Marillion’s Pete Trewavas to form the supergroup Transatlantic. In 2002, Neal became a born again Christian, left Spock’s Beard, and began a Christian rock solo career, releasing many progressive rock concept albums centered around his new religious faith. In the meantime, he continued to play and record with Transatlantic and formed several new bands, Flying Colors and The Neal Morse Band.
