Prog-Watch 508

by The Prog Squatch | In Conversation with Michael Whiteman of I Am The Manic Whale

This week on Prog-Watch my special guest is Michael Whiteman, bassist, singer, and composer from I Am The Manic Whale! Michael and I chat about all sorts of things, from the origins of the band to the future of “progressive rock”. Along the way I will, of course, spin lots of great music from Michael and the rest of his pod-mates in I Am The Manic Whale!

I Am The Manic Whale is a progressive rock band from Reading, UK, formed in 2015. The band consists of Michael Whiteman (bass guitar and lead vocals, plus occasional keyboards and guitar), David Addis (guitars and backing vocals), Ben Hartley (drums and backing vocals), and John Murphy (keyboards and vocals).

Michael and David met each other at school at a relatively young age and have been making music together for over 20 years. Michael began writing music over ten years ago, and was been looking to record a solo progressive rock album under the name I Am The Manic Whale. After completing the first song it became apparent that he would need some help from his other musician friends, and this gradually evolved into a band. Their debut album, Everything Beautiful In Time, was released in December 2015. A second album, Gathering The Waters, was released late in 2017.
